Dendrobium

Dendrobium orchids are a large and diverse group of orchids, with over 1,800 species and many hybrids. They are native to tropical and subtropical regions around the world, and they come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. If you are thinking about adding a Dendrobium orchid to your home, or if you already have one and you are not sure how to care for it, this guide is for you.

Light: Most Dendrobium need very bright light, year-round in order to flower well.

Water: Dendrobium orchids should be watered when the potting mix is dry to the touch. Water thoroughly and then allow the potting mix to dry out again before watering again. Avoid getting water on the leaves or flowers, as this can cause them to rot.

Fertilize: Dendrobium orchids should be fertilized every two weeks during the growing season with a balanced fertilizer. Reduce fertilizing to once a month during the winter months.

Re-potting: Dendrobium orchids should be re-potted every two to three years, or when the potting mix breaks down. Use a fresh potting mix that is designed for orchids.
